FLYHISTORISK MUSEUM SOLA
Near the airfield of Sola, not far from Stavanger, there is a small aviation museum. The airfield used to be an air force base in former years, with T-33A and F-5’s in the sixties, seventies and eighties. Nowadays it is an international airport with a small military component.
In August 2024 I visited this museum. Opening hours are Tuesday till Sunday from 12.00 till 16.00 at the address Flyhistorisk Museum Sola, Sola Prestegårdsveg 170, 4050 Sola. The entrance fee is 85 NOK (about 7 euro).
Only two aircraft are outside, a CF-104 on a pole and a Danish AF RF-35 Draken. All other aircraft are inside, and taking good photos is very difficult or even impossible. The two halls are simply too small to house so many aircraft. The Swiss Vampire is even stuck against the wall, nose down.
There are some very interesting aircraft, like an F-84G, an F-86F, an F-86K, an RF-84F and an old-coded F-5A. But…..some a/c are hanging in the top of the hall, or are stuffed so near to each other in a rather dark hall, that viewing or taking photos is not easy. I found it a bloody shame to make a museum in this way.
Spotters log (August 4, 2024)
Mentioned are only military aircraft from the period after WWII. All a/c are Norwegian Air Force unless otherwise stated.
