A visit to Köln-Wahn
In August 1969 my friend Theo and I passed the Köln-Wahn airport during our yearly spotting tour. At this civil airfield the Luftwaffe also has a part in use for transport operations. Moreover two of their Canberra’s were stationed here. For us reason enough to ask permission to make some photos on the military side. Fortunately we met with a very friendly captain, who gave us lots of time to make photos. First there was Canberra 00+03; very special as these kind of serials were applied for only a short time. Then to the visitors, this day two G-91R’s and a T-33A. At the moment we photographed G-91R 30+66, we could not know that this aircraft would crash three days later during take of from Wahn. The next stop was with the transport aicraft, two ageing C-131’s, some Pembrokes and the brand new HFB-320. And when we asked for the Sabre monument, which we had seen from our car, we were driven to another Sabre, stored in the bush. All together again a splendid day!
